Posted in Art Shows, Installations on March 26, 2011 by dianneclintonFish Tail, Dianne Clinton 2011, mixed media installation – $100.00

This piece was made for the Shelf Life exhibition at Artcite. Each artist was given a wooden shelf to transform into anything. I was inspired by something I have been mentally “shelving.” I’ve been trying to avoid certain fears, one being swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, or anything that has to do with the potential of drowning. Yikes.

3 works from A Safe Place to Hide, at Common Ground Gallery
Posted in Art Shows, Installations on March 26, 2011 by dianneclintonI participated in a show called A Safe Place to Hide with two other artists, Laurie D’Alessandro and Mike Marcon.
We were each to describe places we use for recluse, whether it be a mental space or somewhere we like to physically go.
I focused on my apartment; how I use it and how I wish I used it.
Collection Series 1: Paper, Dianne Clinton 2011, mixed media installation - $500.00
The origami on this chair was made out of paper that I had somehow collected over a few years. I often feel as though my living space is cluttered, and this was a fabulous way for me to get rid of all the paper, as well as show what a nuisance it is to have such clutter.
Collection Series 2: Dust, Dianne Clinton 2011, mixed media installation – $100.00
This piece was a mask I made to describe the dust in my apartment. I’ve been collecting dust in my apartment, and this is the kind of gear I would need to keep up with cleaning it all.
To avoid a dust collection I would need to clean every single day, so I collect dust.

Collection Series 3; Expectations, Dianne Clinton 2011, mixed media installation – $375.00
This piece was definitely an attempt to be a little more “domestic.” I sewed the apron, after taking a sewing class at Saint Flamingo with Christine. I haven’t used the apron, yet, but I’m planning on learning to bake.
Here is a little article someone wrote about the show:
Commission in Memorium of Debbie Baker
Posted in Commissions, Sold Paintings on March 26, 2011 by dianneclintonUntitled, Dianne Clinton 2011, mixed media on canvas 24″ x 24″ – sold
This was a very special piece to paint for the employees at Children First, in memorium of their co-worker and friend Debbie Baker. Hearing stories about her and seeing her family and friends gather for the unveiling of this painting showed me that Debbie was definitely a REALLY special woman. It was an absolute honour to create this work for Debbie, and I wish I could have met her :)

This was commissioned from my friend Jackie for her living room. She asked for a woman with curly hair (just like her) meditating in an exotic looking forest, so this is what I came up with! The flowers are inspired by the pillows in her living room, and she balances the names of her husband and son in each of her hands. The word balance is written across the flower stems as well. I can’t wait to see it in her living room!! Thank you Jackie!

This painting is commission #2 for my cousin Kristy. She is having her first baby, and requested that I make a painting for her son’s room to go above the crib. She gave me the colour ideas and all of her original ultrasound pictures to include in the painting. I have included his name, her husband’s initials, and her three closest friends; her sisters. The four towers are her and her three younger sisters. They are aniticipating their first nephew of the family, and are so excited to spoil him, I can tell :) The circular symbols represent fertility and the repetition of it depicts the excitement for the baby’s arrival in July 2010…can’t wait :)
